Creative Arts

At MRDA, after endless thinking, we thought out opportunities that will lead our students to realize and release their passions, ideas and opinions.

We point the way !

Your child will mark the trail to inspire others.

Different fields to tap different geniuses; each activity is directed towards critical thinking, decision-making and time management.

Your child will craft his space, speak his mind, write out of the box, leave crowds spellbound, and quiz his way to gold.

Sports

Sports are compulsory everyday at MRDA.

The focus of sporting activities at MRDA is to develop leadership, team building skills, a winner’s attitude, sportsmanship and achieve physical fitness. Students participate in the sports regardless of their athletic ability. Life skills such as goal setting, persistence, teamwork, perseverance and character development invariably get transferred from sport to academics, family life, and work.

MRDA has special coaches, grounds and infrastructure and offers the following sports: Skating, Roll ball, Athletics, Cricket, Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Yoga, Baseball, Karate and many rural games. Table Tennis, Chess, Carom, etc. are offered as Indoor activities.

The school employs professional coaches who have the expertise and passion. Children are trained and prepared for intra and inter school competitions and also on a district and national level.

Academic Benefits of Sports:

Numerous studies have demonstrated positive effects of playing sport on academic achievement, on a major part because of the positive influence of identity formation and emotional development due to sports. Sports that involve aiming and hitting skills, for example, table tennis, badminton and karate help them to increase focus. Whereas other team games help to develop leadership qualities and foster team spirit in kids. Winning and losing in sports exposes children to both aspects of life, success and failure, and prepares them to accept both whole heartedly.

Music & Dance

Music is the language of the soul. It gives you fulfillment in life.

At MRDA, Music is given utmost importance. We have a have highly qualified and experienced team of Music teachers specialist in Vocals & Instrumental who stay on the campus with the children at all times. They have designed a holistic Music curriculum which is implemented across all grades in school where the students learn vocal and instrumental skills as per progressively in all classes. Every class has music periods every alternate day and also an ongoing vocational special music club for advanced learnings.

We have fully equipped music rooms for tabla, drums, keyboard and a special section for choir recitals. We have a wide range of instruments from Indian classical like sitar, harmonium to western instruments like drums, guitar and keyboard.

The right hemisphere of our brain deals with creativity and art while the left hemisphere deals with logic, and aspects such as science and math.

Playing a musical instrument requires you to use both the hands, since the nerve of the hands are interconnected to the brain, they help in activating regulation in both left and right hemisphere of the brain.

This enhanced regulation of both hemispheres automatically boosts the academic performance in children.

These benefits add to better morale, enthusiasm towards academics, improved focus and concentration, improved attendance resulting in improved academic performance among children.

5 benefits of music and dance education as observed by us are :

  1. Teaches cooperation and building relationships: Taking turns to share the musical instruments and exchange notes with peers can help build relationship and develop a sense of camaraderie among children.
  2. Builds perseverance: Through Music by trying to find different methods to play an instrument. Dance can be a great form of physical activity for people of all ages. We incorporate an appropriate, exercised-based dance course to get students moving. A natural appreciation of a healthy lifestyle is formed and will inevitably help students relish their hobbies in life.
  3. Gives social experience and exposure: Music & Dance allows students a new way to gain confidence and feel comfortable speaking, moving, or leading an audience. A very personal way of communicating, if a child can feel comfortable enough sharing their movement with an audience, imagine the confidence they will eventually feel giving a speech in front of their peers.
  4. Boosts self-confidence & self-acceptance : Being able to play a song or a tune is an achievement and that surely going to add extra points in the confidence department. Learning dance in schools at a young age can help boost confidence and eliminate the fear of “performing” all together.
  5. Appreciation of Arts : Music & Dance both are a fine arts which introduces children to varied cultures. Incorporating dance as part of school curriculum helps nurture a sense of appreciation and admiration for the arts.

Meditative Classes

New research in the fields of psychology, education and neuroscience shows teaching meditation in schools is having positive effects on students’ well-being, social skills and academic skills.

Our Students who are taught meditation at school reported higher optimism, more positive emotions, stronger self-identity, greater self-acceptance and took better care of their health as well as experiencing reduced anxiety, stress and depression. This was compared to before the meditation programs and compared to peers who were not taught meditation at school.

Meditation also helps the social life of students by leading to increases in pro-social behaviour (like helping others) and decreases in anti-social behaviour (like anger and disobedience).

Finally, meditation was found to improve a host of academic and learning skills in students. These included faster information processing, greater focus, more effective working memory, more creativity and cognitive flexibility.

How meditation is taught ?

“Mindfulness” meditation is one of the more popular practices being taught at schools. It involves a three-step mental process where students are asked to:

  • focus their attention on a particular target (for example their own breathing, a sound, a sensation);
  • notice when their attention has wondered away from the target;
  • bring their attention back to the target.

Students are asked to do this without being judgemental and with a curiosity that allows them to identify patterns in their thoughts and feelings. This leads to a clearer mind and a more peaceful outlook.

Examples of mindfulness techniques include teachers striking a music triangle or bell and asking students to pay attention for the exact moment where the sound turns into silence, giving students a piece of chocolate or a slither of chilli, asking them to place the food on their tongue and then pay close attention to what is happening to their taste buds, their salivary glands and the temperature in their mouth; or asking students to clap their hands forcefully for 20 seconds and then observe the physical after-effects such as tingling and pulsing in the palms.
